Milton Glaser: Art is Work (video)

The video "Art is Work" features the graphic artist Milton Glaser who provides a interesting spin on what art can be defined as. His work seems to act as a bridge between reality and fantasy or, what is a dream. Glaser states that art is something that recruits creativity but that also requires business savvy and that more importantly, art serves people by uniting them with a common interest. The photo above is of one of this more famous works and is one that I find particularly creative to look at, since it evokes the emotion of curiosity.

  1. I have never heard of this graphic designer before, but I'm really glad you mentioned him. The fact that his work acts as a bridge between reality and fantasy is very interesting to me. The world of dreams can be so mysterious and it seems as if, through his work, he is trying to make that world more concrete and understandable. I have often thought about creating a dream series within my own body of artwork.

I find the quote shown in the photo above to be very intriguing. It deals with an abstract notion, love, and describes it as being something real. I feel that as artists, it is our job to embrace abstract ideas such as this and attempt to make them more understandable to the masses. The only thing I would add to this post is the video itself. Other than than, good post!
