This photo is a great demonstration of the opposing forces of fire and water. Here, we see two common elements combined in a way that is, well, not so common. The image can be a metaphor for any two opposing forces, such as peace and war. Other examples could be love and hate, sadness and happiness, science and politics, and religion and government.
However, the picture could also be taken as a compromise between two opposite elements. The fire and water are contained in the same glass, suggesting that maybe they are actually getting along. Or maybe, the photo is conveying the message that two completely opposite forces could indeed get along.
